This is a one-day trip to Chiloé to see Ancud and its surroundings. Highlight of this trip will be our visit of the Otway Foundation who will take us by boat to watch their penguins on small off-shore islands.
We
will drive from Puerto Varas to Pargua in an all-terrain vehicle and then
have a half hour boat ride to Chacao on the island of Chiloé. From
there we will continue to the west side of the island, past Ancud, to
the Pacific. At the Pacific coast we will visit the Otway
Foundation and their penguins. Along the way we will be
able to see people collecting algae and cultivating mussels.
Passing through lovely countryside along the ocean, we will reach Mar Brava and other sections of the coast which are impressive because of their high pounding waves, wide beaches and bizarre cliffs. After taking several walks we will drive back to Ancud where we can have lunch in a typical Restaurant. Then we will visit the Artesania fish and vegetables markets of Ancud. Towards evening we will be back in Puerto Varas.
Price per Person: $US 70
Minimum: 2 participantes
The price does not include cost of lunch
On this trip we will try to come into close contact with the country and its people.

the famous pile dwellings of Castro, Chiloe
We will travel in an all-terrain vehicle from Puerto Varas to Pargua, where we will take a half hour boat ride to Chacao on the island of Chiloé. This island is 180 km long from north to south and is, next to Tierra del Fuego, the second largest island of South America. During the following tour on various gravel trails, you will hear many stories and myths of this legendary island. We will see and experience how people live and work here (for example how oxen are still used in the fields). We will drive through little fishing towns and pass old churches and chapels, which were built by the Jesuits in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In Dalcahue we will stop at a typical spot to eat at Doņa Maria's. (Empanadas!) From there we will take a short sidetrip by boat to the Isla Quinchao where we can try fresh oysters in Curaco de Vélec. Later, in Achao, we will visit the oldest church of Chiloé. Towards evening we will arrive in Castro, where we will spend the night in a friendly Hospedaje. The next morning we will tour Castro, see its large church and the famous pile buildings. In Castro there is also one of the biggest and most beautiful Artesania (Crafts) markets of the region. Following lunch in Ancud we will reach the west coast of the island on the Pacific. Here we basically do the same as on our "one-day-trip to Chiloe". That means we have plenty of time to visit the Otway Foundation and their penguins. Towards evening we will be back in Puerto Varas.
Price per person: $US 140 including overnight with breakfast in Castro
Minimum: 2 participants
Lunch and supper are not included in the price.

Trip around Lake Llanquihue, the fourth largest lake in South America, with gorgeous views of the Osorno, Calbuco, Puntiagudo and Tronador Volcanoes.
Our
trip starts from Puerto Varas in an all-terrain vehicle. We will travel
via Frutillar, visit the open-air museum and then drive over gravel
roads along the shores of the lake. You will feel set back in time as
you make out many old colonial houses and mills. Our drive will continue
through beautiful countryside to Puerto Octay, a small, sleepy town,
where we can either have lunch in a restaurant or have a picnic on the
beach. We will drive on via Cascadas, at the foot of the Osorno Volcano
with its lava fields, to Laguna Verde. Afterwards we can tour the old
colonial hotel Ensenada where we can enjoy coffee and homemade cake.
(delicious!!)
Towards evening we will be back in Puerto Varas.
Option:
In Cascadas we can include a short but beautiful hike to the waterfall.
Price per person: $US 70
Minimum: 2 participants
The price does not include the museum entrance fee and cost of lunch
and will vary depending on your personal wishes on the trip.
